Benny Gold S/S 2010

The Benny Gold Spring/Summer collection is now available at the shop. Fresh off the opening of his new flagship shop in San Francisco, BG releases another extremely strong collection, proving again why his brand is arguably the best new label in the industry.

This season’s glider collaboration, from the Glider Plane Artist Series, features work from British design boutique I Love Dust.

Also featured is another amazing photo tee collaboration, this time with Joe Brook, chief photographer of SLAP Magazine.

In addition to these featured items, Benny created another group of iconic graphic tees, ranging from his Union Label tee to the Hang Loose tee. The classic Glider Logo also makes an appearance. All of these tees feature detailed metallic gold prints.

Available now in store, online soon. Headwear arriving shortly.

fight night

The WEC/UFC put on a great event at Arco Arena this past weekend. Aldo vs Faber marked the first WEC promotion pay-per-view event, including two title fights and one undercard fight now being called “the fight of the decade” by Joe Rogan.

We started out at the weigh ins on Friday afternoon. It’s amazing to think that some of these athletes regularly cut in excess of 15% of their total body weight to make their class limit. Seldom have I seen somebody so eager to down a bottle of Gatorade. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Ben Henderson, Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber were some of the huge WEC names on Saturday’s card.

Saturday’s fights sold out Arco. Our city’s meathead population arrived en masse, in uniform, via lifted Silverado, though I was quite surprised at how diverse the overall crowd makeup was. Sacramento rarely shows this type of enthusiasm and support for anything, but it seems as though the UFC/WEC, and more importantly Sacramento-area fighters (like Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, Chad Mendes, and Danny Castillo), are like the second coming of the 2001 Sacramento Kings. The crowd noise was deafening.

While Urijah lost to Jose Aldo in the main event (five round unanimous decision), his pain (pictured below) was a significant gain for the sport and the fans.

Big thanks go out to Amp Energy and Zuffa Inc for bringing us out to the event. Just bleed, folks.

on the clock

Tonight brings us one of the most over-covered, over-analyzed, dishonest and greedy events on the sports calendar. It is, however, a holiday for men in dog masks and cynical New York hecklers. It’s time for the NFL Draft.

This entire process reminds me of a time when Cuba Gooding Jr. was relevant, Tom Cruise was cool (sort of), and Aries Spears was…alive?

While we wait an eternity for each pick, through endless montages and mindless arguments between Count Chocula and Beaver Cleaver, let us hope for more Patrick Willis and less Kwame Harris. If you know a Raiders fan, be a responsible citizen and remove any guns or rope from their possession until Sunday.

Baberaham Lincoln

Literally and figuratively before my time, Cameron Crowe and Amy Heckerling created a iconic teen comedy known as Fast Times at Ridgemont High:

The cult classic features (now) well known stars such as Sean Penn, Forest Whitaker, Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and even Nicolas Cage. Many who have seen this film, however, remember very little other than Linda Barrett, played by all-time babe Phoebe Cates.

The good people at Acapulco Gold are bringing Linda back for a new generation with their new “Phoebe” tee. Now all you have to do is put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.

Available now in store, along with other quality AG items.

By the way, what are you people? On dope?
