Get your fix

This Wednesday was the kick-off for the Bicycle Film Festival in San Francisco. The event will carry on through the weekend with a great line-up of flicks including, the much anticipated short by Macaframa, Macramento. The rider line-up for the film includes skate legend, John Cardiel and blogging animal Kris Fay of Lockedcog along with other Sacramento rippers. Check out the trailer below.

Kris will be out there this weekend to partake in the festivities. He will also be bringing along a few samples of the new Lockedcog t-shirt which are set to be released on Black Friday. If you can spot him, flag him down and get one of the tees early.

Macaframa x Raleigh Bicycles x Mike Giant

Macaframa unveiled its long-awaited collaboration with Raleigh Bicycles last week at Interbike 2010. The frame set is based largely on the original Raleigh track bike, with a retro feel and sleek look. It also features some great San Francisco-inspired graphics designed by fellow San Franciscan Mike Giant. The expected release date is November 2010.

test shots in the Panhandle

From MACAFRAMA:

We went out to just test out some new equipment with my buddy Jason Clary for an hour or so a little while back and here’s what we got.

Can’t wait to see what’s next.

As Promised

Part two of my So Cal recap contains no photos from the Agenda Tradeshow. I figure there’s plenty of those floating around the interwebs already. I made my escape from the madness of Huntington in the afternoon, Thursday, and went on my way to San Diego. After a couple hours in traffic I made it in time to catch dinner with Alyasha (Stack-Aly) and Jessica, who were my gracious hosts. I had come to check out Aly’s gig at the Tower Bar, where he is a resident DJ.

Josh “Big Red” Hayes (Macaframa) scooted on over to hang. If you still haven’t checked out his part in Macaframa, do it. It was a pleasure to finally meet the guy.

Joe (LWR), there on the left, met up with us a little later on. The little guy pictured, who we named Yoda, was a trip and really just wanted us to know how much he loved America. Right on, Yoda.

Aly, along with Mikey Ratt (Right), put on an awesome set and made sure everyone had a good time. If you’re ever in the area be sure to check out Tower Bar, a truly rad establishment.

Thanks for everything, Aly.

Armed with a late 90s Sony Cybershot, and Porter backpack full of cheap beer…what untold riches will Corbin bring back from wretched Huntington Beach? Stay tuned!

Chrome Familia

The good folk at Chrome have assembled a great new team and blog, aptly titled Familia – the “vagabonds, dirtbags and other upstanding citizens” who represent Chrome products.

The team includes John Igei, Emmanuel Guzman, Bobby Worrest, and friend of the shop John Cardiel. Keep up with their adventures HERE.

Summer Fix 2010

A lot of images are surfacing from last weekend’s Summer Fix in Los Angeles. The famous Venice Beach basketball courts were the setting for the trick competitions, which brought out a large crowd for one of this year’s biggest fixed-gear events.

Riders such as Keo Curry (Macaframa) and Ed Wonka (Grime) were in attendance, with Wonka taking first place in the pro division trick comp.

Congrats to LA Brakeless for putting together a successful event. Russell Martin can still suck it.

FTL

Pre-Macaframa, your favorite fixed gear directors were making skate videos like the one here. Colby created this video, featuring strictly Sacramento based skaters, over four years ago. The aptly named FTL crew included local skate rats Mark Dillon and JR Dias of Lurk Hard. Matt Pailes (iPath) also gets some shine in the video along with footage of a younger, pre-swoosh, Omar Salazar(NikeSB). With all the things these guys have going on now it’s interesting to look back at this point in time.

#FF

“Follow Friday”, a weekly ritual on twitter, is an opportunity to recommend profiles you think are worth checking out. Here are some of the folks we keep up with daily. Each of these photos was on the Lucky Lefty’s twitter profile at some point.

Here are our friends Gabe and Keller, mid chest bump, over at FTC Sacramento. Gabe keeps us all up to date with the current Nike SB releases and skate hardgoods. There’s a good chance you’ll see some notable skaters in there too. Follow FTC here.

This is Matt. Web design extraordinaire, gnarly BMX rider, straight edge OG, and walking zombie. He is responsible for the website you are on right now. He does some impressive work along with his world class team at BKWLD. Follow Matt here.

NEEK hails from Sin City, a rad dude with an agenda. If he’s not holding down shop at StussyLV, you might catch him cruisin in his decked out Scion xb(right there to the left), updating one of his many websites, or grubbin’ on Korean BBQ at Tofu Hut. Really though, NEEK is everywhere and he takes us all with him via his twitter. Follow him and peep game.

Last but not least is Colby; the “fixie filmer”. Founder and director of the fixed gear cycling film company known as Macaframa. Colby and the Macaframa team are preparing to film the second installment of their fixed gear cycling project this summer. Having recently moved back to Sacramento, he has been rediscovering the area on his bike and updating his followers with the new spots he finds. He’ll also update you when he loses at pool over here at the shop. Check out Colby’s twitter here.

Macashreda

Last weekend during the Bicycle Film Festival/AMGEN events, our friends at Macaframa put on a competition at nearby Fremont Park.

Macashreda brought out all types of riders, from middle school kids to living legends.

Charles is the man. When it comes to throwing sprint and alley cat events in town, nobody puts in more time and effort than him. Also, he can serve you the most brutal Death By Chocolate cake you’ll ever have.

Kris maintains a great blog, LOCKEDCOG, that focuses on fixed gear culture and news. He’s also a beast on the trick bike.

Brad had his bike stolen the night before (Eighth Inch V2 Scrambler…let somebody know if you spot it), but was able to borrow one and still rip it.

Matt Rodriguez, Squirrel, and John Cardiel.

…looking forward to more this Summer.
